In an effort to break the striking United Mine Workers, Commander-in-Chief Truman issues Executive Order 9728, placing the nation’s coalmines under the control of the army of the United states.

       NOTE: “An executive order is … a written command issued by the President directing subordinate government officials to take specified actions or implement designated policies.”
