The Plan of Iguala: Generals Agustin Cosme Damian de Iturbide y Aramburu and Vicente Ramon Guerrero Saldana meet in Iguala, Mexico to sign a formal agreement that
- Mexico is to become a constitutional monarchy;
- Roman Catholicism will be the official state religion;
- Americanos (those born in Mexico) will enjoy the same political and social rights as Peninsulares (those born in Spain).
Iturbide and Guerrero further agree to merge their armies into the Army of the Three Guarantees
Postscript: The plan was so popular that divergent warring factions soon joined the Army of the Three Guarantees, transforming it into an unbeatable force.
