In the formerly divided city of Berlin, Wolfgang Schauble, Interior Minister of the socialist Federal Republic of (West) Germany, and Gunther Krause, Junior Minister to the Prime Minister of the formerly communist German Democratic Republic of (East) Germany, sign the Unification Treaty proposing a timetable by which the two nations will be merged.
