Operation Lam Son 719 ends in failure: Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Lam, commanding I Corps of the Army of the kleptocratic Republic of (South) Vietnam, completes his retreat back into South Vietnam from Laos. The ARVN began its retreat when it first encountered resistance from the communist People’s Army of (North) Vietnam.
