Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

—- Isaiah 6:8

While the United States Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are stationed at 737 bases, in 130 nations around the world, defending “all freedom-loving people everywhere in the world,” Peter B. Hegseth, secretary of war (foreign military aggression), speaking to the Corps of Cadets at texas A&M University, misinterprets Isaiah 6:8: “For 250 years of this country, there have been men and women who raised their right hand and said, ‘Send me.  Send me to go fight the Redcoats.  Send me to go fight the Communists.  Send me to go fight the Islamists.’”

       NOTES:

  • Many Biblical scholars interpret this passage as a call to preach penance and divine judgement to the ancient Israelites, not to go on a global killing spree.
  • Although Hegseth used the word “country” here, the editors believe that he meant to use the word “nation,” in which a central government, with almost limitless power, treats its constituent states as mere enclaves, provinces, or sub-divisions of its greater self; as opposed to “Union,” which is a union of sovereign States under a federal system, with a central government whose powers are strictly limited by a respected Constitution.
