At Super Bowl LVII, Glendale, (Federal enclave of) Arizona, the late Patrick D. Tillman, Jr., a former safety for the Arizona Cardinals and United states Army Ranger (private mercenary) is honored during the pre-game coin toss with a short video of how he “gave up his NFL career to join the Army Rangers and ultimately lost his life in the line of duty.”
NOTE: This annual hyper-militarized extravaganza deliberately ignored the fact that Tillman had become disillusioned with foreign military aggression and was considering meeting with anti-war activist Noam Chomsky. Also ignored was the fact the Tillman received three bullets, fired at close range, in his head; and that his uniform was burned to conceal the evidence.
