The Federal court for western district of the republic of texas hands down the “Branch Davidian Eleven”: judge Walter S. Smith, Jr.,  sentences Renos Avraam, Brad Branch, Jaime Castillo, Livingstone Fagan, and Kevin Whitecliff, members of the Branch Davidian cult to ten years in prison for defending themselves (manslaughter) from Federal agents in the Waco Massacre.

NOTE: During the trial Smith refused to allow the attorneys (government licensed legal counsel) for the defense to use a self-defense argument.

Postscript: Two decades later Smith would retire in disgrace for sexual misconduct.
