Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York.
—- Richard Plantagenet, Duke of Glouchester, “Richard III”
The “Summer of Discontent” begins: While the United states Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are in Vietnam, “united in … determination to take all necessary measures in support of freedom,” James Calvert, a Tampa, florida, policeman fatally shoots Martin Chambers, a 19-year-old suspected of robbing a camera supply warehouse.
Postscript: Six days later racially based rioting had led to the arrests of over 100 U.s. subject/enemy/citizens and 2,000,000 “dollars” worth of property damage.
