The Buddhist Crisis begins: On the 2,527th anniversary of the birth of the prophet Gautama Buddha, Major Dang Xi (a Catholic), Deputy Governor for Security for Hue province, in the kleptocratic Republic of (South) Vietnam orders his Soldiers to open fire on Buddhists protesting the banned display of their religious flag.  Although only national flags are to be displayed in South Vietnam, a week before Xi permitted local Catholics to display the Papal flag.  One woman and eight children lose their lives.
