The Federal enclave of Arizona State Police and National Guard (United states Soldiers) raid the Fundamentalist (polygamist) Jesus Christ Church of Latter-day Saints settlement at Short Creek, arresting approximately 400 fundamentalist LDS, including 236 children.
Postscript: More than half of the children were not reunited with their parents for over two years. Nearly 50 children were never returned to their parents.
