       The supreme court, of the corporate United states, hands down West Virginia (enclave of virginia) State Board of Education v. Barnette, overturning Minersville School District (pennsylvania) v. Gobitis: government-run public school conscriptstudents are no longer required to recite the communist “Pledge of Allegiance.”

       NOTE: Hugo L. Black, William O. Douglas and W. Francis Murphy, associate justices, participated in both decisions, but each of them switched their positions between the two.
