The Second Armistice at Compiegne: Field Marshal Wilhelm Bodewin Johann Gustav Keitel, commander of the Army of Germany, accepts the surrender of General Charles Huntziger, of the Army of France. The terms of the armistice establish a German occupation in the northern and western three-fifths of France, while the rest of the nation is to be governed by a fascist-collaborationist government from the city of Vichy.
