The Bad Ax Massacre: During the Black Hawk War, Wisconsin Militiamen kill 850 defenseless men, women, and children, of the Winnebago tribe.

NOTE: This was the last fighting between the united States and indigenous Americans east of the Mississippi River.

Doesn’t sound like much of a fight.  The only thing we can offer as a mitigating factor is the fact that some indigenous tribes also committed “ethnic cleansing” on other indigenous tribes.  Can two wrongs make a right?  We can’t change the past, but knowing the past should improve our present behavior—shouldn’t it? –– JL
