       16 Thermidor Year VI—the Battle of the Nile River/Aboukir Bay (Egypt) ends: After three days of fighting Rear Admiral Horatio Nelson, commanding a 14-ship fleet of the Royal Navy, defeats a 13-ship fleet of the Navy of France, commanded by Vice Admiral Francois-Paul Brueys d’Aigalliers.  This traps General Napoleon Bonaparte, and his 40,000 strong Army trapped in Egypt.

       Postscript: Thirty-eight-thousands of Bonaparte’s Army were either killed or captured.
