The French Reign of Terror continues—17 Germinal Year I: The National Convention, of the Republic of France, creates the Committee of Public Safety, for the purpose of protecting the republican revolution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.
Postscript: The CPS slowly became a de facto wartime government, arresting 300,000 enemies of the revolution, executing 17,000 of them, with almost 10,000 dying in custody without due process.
