A Newport, Rhode Island, town meeting expresses the “deepest sense of injuries done to the town of Boston [Massachusetts], by the [Boston] [P]ort [A]ct of Parliament destroying their trade and destroying their port.” The meeting goes on to war that the “same power may at pleasure destroy the trade and shut up the ports of every other colony in its turn.”

George III (r. 1760 – 1776, in the colonies; died 1820) lends his assent to the second and third of the Intolerable Acts: The Massachusetts Government Act suspends the 1691 royal charter granting self-government, and places the colony under martial law; the Administration of Government Act provides for removing trials to Nova Scotia or Great Britain, where jurors will be less sympathetic to the accused.
